The Centre for African Conservation Ecology (ACE) of the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University is a research and postgraduate training unit located within the Faculty of Science. ACE was established in 1992 and over the last decade has developed a very strong record of conservation research, as well as training of postgraduate students. Noteworthy contributions include the development of proposals for the establishment of the Greater Addo Elephant National Park , the Baviaanskloof Mega Reserve , as well as the conservation planning for the Cape Floristic Region, and the Subtropical Thicket Ecosystem Project
The Director of ACE, Prof Graham Kerley is the Chair and Convenor of the SCB 2007 Conference.
