2007 is here! 75 years of excellence! Please join us at Saasveld in celebrating this grand occasion in which you too played an integral role. This will be a great opportunity for you and yours to meet with old friends, class mates and colleagues in a convivial spirit. The Saasveld Campus of Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University houses the School of Natural Resource Management, which offers programmes in Forestry, Wood Technology, Agricultural Management, Nature Conservation and Game Ranch Management. We are proud of our students who have completed these unique courses, endorsed by industry and focusing on the management of natural resources in South Africa. We would love to welcome you back to your Alma Mater.
The Saasveld Campus supports a holistic approach to the management of the natural resources of South Africa, i.e. the integration of social capital with the business and biophysical environment in order to achieve sustainable resource utilization. For this reason, we have selected as the theme for the symposium: The Big Three for Sustainable Natural Resource Management.
In celebration, a three day event is planned for the last weekend of September (the 27th to 29th).
Day 1 (Thu. 27 Sept.): Main symposium and evening function
Day 2 (Fri. 28 Sept.): Morning parallel sessions in each of the three disciplines of Forestry, Agriculture and Conservation
Afternoon and evening: Industry exhibitions, casual social interaction between symposium delegates, alumni, students and staff
Day 3 (Sat. 29 Sept.): Industry exhibitions, various events and re-unions, memorabilia and memories culminating in an informal social function when an evening of entertainment is assured.
Saasveld is known for close interaction with industry and its alumni. We believe that the 75th anniversary of our campus will be a significant event for staff, students and the various industries. This website intends to provide relevant information on the programme to assist you in planning your visit to your Alma Mater. We trust that this will be an event to remember, and that it will add to the culture and legacy that this institution has established over many years.
If you require any further information, please feel free to contact us. We are looking forward to welcoming you back to Saasveld.
