Vision:

SCCDC aims to be a valued centre of excellence that provides sought after institution wide research-led counselling services and programmes that focus on optimising human potential and contributing to higher education transformation by enhancing access and throughput rates.

Mission:

The SCCDC plays three essential roles in serving higher education and the student community, namely:

  • To support and enhance the wellness and the healthy holistic growth and development of students through co-involvement of the campus community (developmental focus);


  • To assist students in identifying and enhancing learning skills, which will assist them in effectively meeting their educational and life goals (preventative focus);


  • To provide guidance, counselling and/or therpay to students experiencing personal adjustment, vocational, developmental and/or psychological problems that require professional attention (remedial focus)

Student development is a key focus area for us, and we promote this through a variety of programmes and services, such as:

Our services are confidential and free to NMMU students and are available on all NMMU campuses!

Our staff are professionally trained, and consist of Clinical, Counselling, Educational and Research Psychologists, Registered Counsellors as well as Psychology interns training in these various positions.
