An opportunity for a postdoctoral student interested in sedimentary geology of the Cretaceous sediments of the Algoa Basin is currently available. The fellowship is available for a period of two years. An amount of R 60,000 per annum has been granted for the fellowship with additional funds available for fieldwork and analytical work.
The candidate will be undertaking research on the sedimentology and/or paleontology of the Cretaceous sediments of the Algoa basin in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa.
There is some flexibility in the focus of the research. The postdoctoral fellow will be expected to carry out field and analytical work with the aim of quantifying the sedimentological characteristics of lithologies within the Cretaceous sediments and lithologies of the Algoa Basin and producing publications which support the findings.
Requirements:
A Ph.D. in geology obtained within the past five years, with a strong background in sedimentary geology (some exposure to paleontology would be advantageous).
A covering letter and curriculum vitae, including all research outputs should be sent to: Sheila Entress, Geology Department, N.M.M.U. Summerstrand South Campus, Port Elizabeth, South Africa, 6001 Tel: +27 41 5042325 Fax: +27 41 5042340
