Sedimentary geology - Cape Fold Belt


Postdoctoral Research Fellowship: Geology Department, Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, Port Elizabeth, South Africa

Position:

An opportunity for a postdoctoral student interested in sedimentary geology of the Cape Fold Belt is currently available. The fellowship is available for a period of two years. An amount of R 60,000 per annum has been granted for the fellowship with additional funds available for fieldwork and analytical work.

Research:

The candidate will be undertaking research on the sedimentology of the Cape Fold Belt in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa

This work includes:

  • Reconnaissance mapping of the Table Mountain Group, Bokkeveld Group and Witteberg Group lithologies.
  • Sedimentological analysis of these lithologies.

There is some flexibility in the focus of the research. The postdoctoral fellow will be expected to carry out field and analytical work with the aim of quantifying the sedimentological characteristics of lithologies within the Cape Fold Belt and producing publications which support the findings.

Requirements:

A Ph.D. in geology obtained within the past five years, with a strong background in sedimentary geology.
