NMMU responds to xenophobic attacks

In an attempt to speak out against recent xenophobic attacks, Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, through its Centre for the Advancement of Non-Racialism and Democracy (CANRAD) will be screening a documentary on xenophobia at its South and Missionvale campuses respectively.

The documentary film is entitled “Where do you stand?” by Molly Blank, produced in partnership with Shikaya. The producer will be attending both screenings. The screenings will be followed by a panel discussion.

First screening:

Date: Thursday, 22 July 2010

Time: 17h30 for 18h00

Venue: Auditorium, South Campus, NMMU

Second screening:

Date: Friday, 23 July 2010

Time: 15h00 for 15h30

Venue: Conference Centre, Missionvale Campus

Other events focusing on diversity will be held during the NMMU Diversity Month throughout August 2010. The theme for Diversity Month is “Many voices, one NMMU”. The programme includes a fun walk; debate on youth identity; community excursion; diverse food, clothing and photo exhibition; talk by an embassy representative; drama; student court; and more.
